It’s time now to go beyond grades: Education Minister
SINGAPORE’S education system has been very successful at the nuts and bolts – it churns out top students, and is ranked highly worldwide – but it is now time for it to evolve.
Parents these days are more educated and demanding, while children are more questioning and learn in different ways, and the system needs to keep up with rising expectations.
It needs to do more than simply churn out students with good grades, Education Minister Ng Eng Hen said yesterday in a speech at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

Ever-Widening Societal Gap
As a follow up to my previous entry, Philip Yeo has openly declared that he would give a scholarship to someone of a poorer background than someone better well of, if the 2 contending candidates are of equal caliber. He then went on to cite A-Star having an overall higher percentage of scholars from lower income families, as compared to PSC.

Overseas Scholarships & Bond Breakers
I have friends, and friends of friends, who are on overseas scholarships, and have been offered a lucrative job by the private sector. Some gave in to the temptation, others battled hard and long within themselves, and the rest wanted to serve out their bond.
